24 May 2022, Nairobi: The Africa Scout Region has launched a 100-days campaign targeting 10,000 leaders with awareness and learning on Safe form Harm leading up to the 18th Africa Scout Conference in August 2022. The campaign which runs for 15 weeks starting on 24 May and ending on 31 August 2022 will see adult volunteers, National Scout Organization (NSOs) staff, rovers Scouts (18-26 years) and national-level partners learn more about ensuring that Scouting remains a safe space for all young people and adults.

A series of activities will take place during the 100-days period to help individuals and NSOs to enhance their understanding and capacity to detect, prevent and address potential safe from harm incidents, both in and out of Scouting. The culmination will be to have 10,000 people from all 40 member NSOs in the region take up the WOSM Safe from Harm e-learning course for volunteers and staff at Take the WOSM Safe from Harm e-learning course at scout.org/elearning-sfh2-advanced (English) or scout.org/fr/elearning-sfh2-advanced-fr (French). On completing the course, each participate will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Three virtual webinars will be held to create awareness on the need to protect our members. NSOs requiring support to comply with the new WOSM Safe from Harm constitutional requirements will be able to receive support through the WOSM Services by submitting a request at services.scout.org/service/6.

Working with local stakeholders NSOs are also encouraged to organize community level activities to create awareness and advocate for the protection and safeguarding of young people in their local communities. Stories of such interventions, case studies and testimonies will also be shared on scout.org/africa to inspire and promote action against harmful practices.

All participants attending the upcoming 18th Africa Scout Conference and 9th Africa Scout Youth Forum will also be required to complete the e-learning course as a mandatory part of their registration process for the events.

The first 100 people to take the course will receive a special mention on social media while the top 5 NSOs with the highest number of participants will be recognized at the conference in August.

To take part, one will need to create an account on scout.org/register if they don’t already have one. Once registered they’ll receive a confirmation email through which they can log in to update their profile with their real names and other required information. This will be used to auto-generate the certificate on completion of the course. When logged in one can then take the WOSM Safe from Harm e-learning course at Take the WOSM Safe from Harm e-learning course at scout.org/elearning-sfh2-advanced (English) or scout.org/fr/elearning-sfh2-advanced-fr (French).

Help us promote the campaign using the hashtag #SfH10000in100 and encourage your friends to take part. Every week, a tally of the number of participants, participants per NSO, and the Top 5 NSOs will be published. Stay tuned to our social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for more information.
