About
Nelson Ochieng Opany is a passionate and charismatic young leader with a wide range of experience in climate change advocacy, peace building, youth empowerment and community development at local, national and international levels. He has been an active scout for 16 years. Currently, he is studying Community Development and Project Management.
In 2011 he founded Uwezo Youth Development Programme (UYDP), a community based organization located in the coastal city of Mombasa. UYDP works with young people on climate change, peace building and youth empowerment initiatives that enable young people to improve their own lives and transform their communities.
In 2012 he was also elected the National Youth Representative where he sits in the National Executive Committee of Kenya Scouts Association to represent the interests of the young people. He also serves as the Chairperson of the Eastern Africa Zonal Scout Youth Forum and National Coordinator of the Messengers of Peace activities in Kenya.
Through these engagements and many of his other affiliations, Nelson continues to be a role model and inspiration to many young people in Kenya and beyond.
